Michael Merritt

Michael Merritt is a recognized expert in distributed computing and computer security. Currently, he is Director of the Network Optimization and Analysis Research Department at AT&T Labs--Research. This department is responsible for fundamental and applied research in efficient algorithms and their applications to communication networks. As of 2005, Michael is chair of the AT&T Labs Fellowship Program selection and oversight committee. This is a pioneering program which for over 30 years has provide funding and mentoring support for female and under-represented minority PhD students, and Michael has mentored three students in the program. Michael joined AT&T in 1983 after receiving his PhD from Georgia Tech. He has written over thirty-five research articles, co-authored a book on database concurrency control, holds four patents, is an area editor for Distributed Computing and the Journal of the ACM, and has taught at MIT, Stevens Institute and Columbia University.
