WEPAN, Women in Engineering ProActive Network, is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1990 to be a catalyst for change to enhance the success of women in the engineering professions. WEPAN actively seeks nominations for its Board of Directors, including two officer positions: President Elect and Treasurer.
WEPAN is the leading champion in North America for leveraging research and promising practices to propel the inclusion of women in the field of engineering. WEPAN’s network connects over 1000 advocates who actively pursue strategies and implement solutions to increase participation, retention and success of women and other underrepresented groups in engineering from college to executive leadership.
The ideal board member will have significant career experience as a practicing engineer, an engineering educator, or will have career experience in an engineering company or at an institution of higher education with an engineering, engineering technology, and/or computer science curriculum or an expert in a field required for WEPAN organizational needs. S/he will have leadership skills to drive change and advance WEPAN’s vision of 50% women in engineering by 2050.
The FY2018 WEPAN board will be seated on July 1, 2017. Board members are expected to take an active role in fundraising, ideally through a commitment from their employer at the Premium Level (institutional member) or Motivator Level (corporate member) or greater, but also may be through (1) engaging with and influencing members of professional networks to garner equivalent funding or (2) in-kind contributions such as sustained committee work, personnel resources or other gifts that support WEPAN's operations. Traditionally, the board member will have a commitment from their employer to support travel to the three required board meetings, the annual conference, and other potential WEPAN opportunities and obligations. Nominations including self-nominations should be submitted through this page during the nomination window of April 20 through May 7 at 11:59 EDT. All nominations will be considered for a general board seat. Please indicate on the form whether there is a particular interest of the nominee to fill the President Elect or Treasurer positions whose roles are described below.
President Elect (year 1 of 3 year service commitment)
The President Elect will make a three year service commitment, succeeding to President and Past President each following year. The President Elect shall prepare for oversight beginning July 1 of the year following appointment. This may involve arranging for surveys and other policies while still President Elect. In addition, possibly work with WEPAN Conference Committee and staff to prepare the main plenary and other events at the annual meeting. The President Elect serves on the President’s Team in collaboration with the President and Past President and may attend any other committee as needed/desired. The President Elect appoints Chairs to all standing WEPAN Committees, receives regular quarterly reports from meeting and interactions from all Committee Chairs and Board Liaisons, develops and manages the strategic planning process, monitors the implementation of strategic plans and communicates results, along with the President’s Team participates and ensures organization activities are in alignment with WEPAN’s strategic direction. The President-Elect shall assist with the President's duties as the President needs and/or requests, and shall act in place of the President in the absence of or at the request of the President.
A time commitment can be estimated at three-five hours/week, and three days/quarter.

Treasurer (serves a two-year term with an option of re-appointment for one additional term)
The Treasurer serves on the Executive Committee and shall be the principal financial officer and, in collaboration with the Finance Committee, shall set, manage and report on the implementation of WEPAN’s fiscal strategy and financial health and position. The Treasurer has oversight of the organization’s funds and securities and meets with the WEPAN staff, who maintains adequate books, prepares annual summary financial reports and other financial documents for the Finance Committee, the Board, and other committees as needed, as necessary for planning and review. The Treasurer ensures that the WEPAN staff arranges for WEPAN’s annual audit and WEPAN staff have charge of submission of all tax filings and financial statements. The Treasurer presents for approval any changes in financial policies, recommends action on the audited financial statements and tax fillings, and actions on the budget for the next fiscal year. The Finance Committee meets weekly and reports to the Board quarterly at a minimum and more often when requested.
