Carol Muller is a university administrator, educator, and social entrepreneur who has spent more than three decades years working in higher education across a wide range of responsibilities in areas of academic administration, faculty recruitment and development, strategic planning and budget development, external relations, corporate and foundation relations, admissions, student development, educational program development, and facilities program planning.
She is currently Executive Director of Stanford WISE Ventures at Stanford University, and also consults independently, creating and delivering workshops for faculty and student development, mentoring, and program development, and specializing in strategic organizational planning and development to advance learning.
The founder of MentorNet (www.MentorNet.net), a nonprofit online global mentoring network, Dr. Muller served as its chief executive from 1997-2008 and was a consulting professor of mechanical engineering at Stanford University from 1999-2012. Previous positions included serving as Associate Dean for Administration for Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College, where she co-founded the Dartmouth Women in Science Project, and also as Department Manager for Stanford University Electrical Engineering. Earlier in her career, she also worked in college admissions (Dartmouth College) and Residential Education (Stanford University).
A Fellow of the Association for Women in Science, Dr. Muller and her work have been recognized with a variety of other national awards, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, and the Anita Borg Social Impact Award. She has authored and presented numerous papers, presentations, and workshops, and has developed projects, programs, and fellowships supported by more than $13 million in grants from private foundations, corporations, and the federal government, contracts, and individual giving. A graduate of Dartmouth College (1977), she earned master’s and Ph.D. degrees in education administration and policy analysis at Stanford University (1981, 1985)
