  2. Discussions of diversity in engineering often gloss over, or altogether avoid, disability. This workshop considers challenges women with disabilities face and strategies for making engineering more welcoming and accessible to women with disabilities. Learn about integrating disability into climate surveys, universal design of instruction, and accessibility of labs and makerspaces.


  4. Penn State Engineering Mentoring for Internship Excellence (EMIX): Empowering Practitioners to Generate Strategic Partnerships and Catalyze Professional Success for Women Engineers

  6. This interactive practitioner workshop showcases a successful model for collaboration between industry and academia yielding dynamic multifaceted outcomes and serving multiple audiences. Corporate partners strategically generate a pipeline for diverse technical talent optimizing likelihood for retention and advancement. Undergraduate students engage in dynamic experiential learning complemented by semester-long professional development.


  8. NAMEPA Best Practice Sharing (90 min.) 3:15 - 4:45

    Virginia Lynn Booth Womack  

    The National Association of Multicultural Engineering Program Advocates (NAMEPA, Inc.) will share best practices across five universities: Purdue, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Kansas State, and Arizona State. Focus on under-represented minority student recruitment, transition and retention in engineering will be discussed.


  10. Making a Difference: Engineering Successful WIE Programs

    Tricia Berry and Beth Holloway were practicing engineers who decided to combine their problem-solving skills with their love of mentoring to become (highly successful) WIE directors. Hear their stories, successes, and advice for engineering successful WIE programs, participate in Q&A and takeaway their “Top Ten” lists of tips and resources.

  1. REACH for Commercialization: Inspiring Female Entrepreneurship

    REACH for Commercialization is a workshop series for women faculty inventors. Entrepreneurship remains a highly gendered endeavor. We address this gap with four workshop themes: Visioning Impact from Research; Learning the Landscape; Building a Team; and Understanding the Funding Lifecycle. Benefits of REACH are: interdisciplinary collaboration; exposure to campus leadership; helping the Technology Commercialization Office understand needs of female inventors; rewarding entrepreneurship.

  2. Making Academic Change Happen

    The Making Academic Change Happen (MACH) Workshop is a three-day, intensive, hands-on workshop that helps faculty, administrators, staff, and graduate students. The workshop is designed to help individuals learn and practice a set of skills that can help them as they design and deploy change projects on their campuses. MACH at WEPAN offers a focused version of the workshop, introducing two key components of the MACH curriculum. As a result of attending MACH at WEPAN, you will learn more about the MACH approach and have the opportunity to learn how these skills are crucial for making your academic change a success.

  4. Finding Top-Notch Diverse Talent - a Corporate Story of Leadership and Change

  5. This presentation highlights a corporate change process that addressed the issues that limited the ability to recruit and hire more diverse candidates. Chevron will address the key factors leading to a more centralized hiring process and the positive results towards increased inclusion across business units and in the hiring process.


  7. Creating Awareness of Inclusive Practices through Grassroots Initiatives

    Lora-Leigh Chrystal, Janice Crow 

    This workshop will guide participants towards developing personal skills and materials to address unconscious biases that can thwart the best intentions of faculty hiring committees to find and support diverse candidates. Participants will learn new strategies that can foster a more diverse and inclusive departmental culture.


  9. Utilizing a Comprehensive, College-wide External Review Process to Propel Culture Change at Ohio State’s College of Engineering

    Session participants will have an opportunity to learn about the 2015 External Review Process conducted by the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University to assess progress of advancing diversity and inclusion in the college. Attendees will learn the origin of the External Review process, its goals, challenges, successes and potential as a model to critically assess College of Engineering structures, practices, programs and initiatives focused on advancing diversity, inclusion, equity and culture change. The Panel and session participants will engage in an interactive dialogue to discuss the review process and lessons learned. Participants will be asked to share their experiences with academic and program reviews and other initiatives used to evaluate the progress of diversity, inclusion, and equity programs.
