2013-2014 Board of Directors

Paige E. Smith, Ph.D.

Paige Smith currently serves as Director of the Women in Engineering Program at the University of Maryland, College Park. Prior to joining the University of Maryland in September 2001, she provided program and student support for the Center for Diversity Enhancement (formerly called the Office of Minority Engineering Programs) at Virginia Tech. She has eleven years of experience working with women and other under-represented populations in engineering. Paige earned a Ph.D. and M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering and a B.S. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Tech.

Paige's is currently co-PI on two NSF grants. The first project provides support for women at all levels of academia, from women faculty to incoming first-year students. The second project focuses on student engineering design project teams and how roles students play on teams affect broader learning. A focus of this project is how the experience impacts women and other under-represented minorities and the roles they play on the team.
