Fatma Mili, Ph.D. (July 2015 - June 2017)

Dr. Fatma Mili is a Professor in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute and founder and director of the Center for Trans-Institutional Capacity Building and Equity in STEM. Prior to this position she was the Associate Dean for Educational Research and Development in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute (then called College of Technology). She joined Purdue and the College in 2012 as the Department Head of Computer Information Technology. In 2013 she co-initiated (with the Dean) the Purdue Polytechnic Institute which was funded by the Purdue President as one of the Big Moves. Dr. Fatma Mili led the incubator/research arm of the Purdue Polytechnic Institute and took it to maturation until it was adopted in the whole college. Before joining Purdue, she was the Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Oakland University. The Department offers two Bachelor of Science degrees, a Master and a Ph.D. During her tenure as Department Head, Dr. Mili grew the research productivity and funding and streamlined the degrees. At Oakland University, she also served as Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
Dr. Mili obtained her degree in Computer Science from the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France. Her technical research is in formal methods in computing, program verification, distributed computing, and bio-inspired algorithms. Her work was funded by NSF, the State of Michigan, Daimler Chrysler, TARDEC. Her educational research is in broadening participation in STEM, in making higher education in tune with the needs and expectations of society and with the evidence based findings about human motivation and human learning. Her work was funded by NSF, NIH, and Purdue University.
