Building Bridges from College to Career

Learn about a course, led jointly by a WEPAN university institutional member and a WEPAN corporate partner, that demonstrates how colleges of engineering and their corporate partners can join forces to make a significant impact on the successful transition of women students as they complete their engineering degree and move on to the workforce.

Dr. Lisa Abrams, Associate Chair, Department of Engineering Education, The Ohio State University and Robin Schribman, Vice President of Global Brand and Customer Experience, Thomson Reuters will talk about how a leadership course for women in STEM was developed, review course materials, and start webinar participants developing their own course or enhancing an existing course. 

The semester long course was designed to provide students with critical skills such as: how to navigate unconscious bias, build your own personal brand, discover why emotional intelligence is critical and develop the tools on how to have crucial conversations that are productive and affirming. Students learned how to lead with courage and confidence in their daily lives by acquiring the skills required to be engaged, authentic and successful in their life's passions. One of the richest outcomes of the course was the creation of a community and a network for women students to share in conversations and be fully supported by their peers. At the end of the semester, many of the students elected to stay together, which for the course leaders, was a great success!

The interactive webinar will include time for exchange of ideas on how to host similar courses nationwide. Following the webinar, a workbook will be available for all participating in the live webinar. WEPAN members not able to attend the live webinar will also have access to the recorded webinar and downloadable workbook.
