Rhonda R. Franklin, Ph.D. 

Dr. Rhonda R. Franklin is a Professor at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (UMTC) in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. She researches high-frequency circuits, antennas, integration, and packaging designs for communications and nano-medicine applications.


Dr. Franklin is passionate about broadening participation of women and minorities in engineering. She served on the Inaugural UMTC Provost Women Faculty Cabinet, was founding WIE advisor for ECE women students, and promotes academic careers to future faculty at University of Michigan’s NextProf program. She also co-founded Project Connect to educate women and minority undergraduate and first year graduate students about the RF/microwave engineering field and industry.


Her awards include the 1998 NSF Presidential Award for Scientist and Engineers, 2013 Sara Evans Leadership Award, 2017 John Tate Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising, and 2018 Minnesota African American Heritage Calendar Award for higher education contributions.


She received her BS and MS/PhD degrees in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University and the University of Michigan, respectively.
