Andrea Buscemi (formerly Lucy-Putwen) is a Research Associate with WEPAN where she serves as a project manager on the Alliance to Catalyze Change for Equity in STEM Success (ACCESS+) grant. Ms. Buscemi is a US Air Force veteran and recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal for her work as a nuclear command and control center specialist during Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. While serving in the US Air Force Reserves, she completed her BAS in Technology Management, where she received accolades as an outstanding baccalaureate award finalist for co-authoring a research paper on cultural expertise in U.S. psychology departments that was accepted to the 22nd & 23rd Congresses of the International Association of Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP). After graduation, Ms. Buscemi began a career in nonprofit community engagement and communications, working with various religious, educational, and scientific organizations. Ms. Buscemin continues her work building diverse, inclusive, and equitable communities in her free time as an advocate for the protection and advancement of people with disabilities, using her personal experiences to champion for continued disability civil rights. Ms. Buscemi is looking forward to resuming her role as a co-leader in a supportive, inclusive Girl Scout troop of over 70 girls and young women, where she will continue her pre-pandemic role organizing fun, interactive, girl-led activities.
