2021 Women in Engineering Virtual Program Day: Returning to Our Roots

The WEPAN Women in Engineering Virtual Program Day: Returning to Our Roots took place October 6 – October 7, 2021, with subsequent content on WEPAN Wednesdays: October 13, October 20, and October 27.

The Women in Engineering Program Day events are designed to convene practitioners and other stakeholders in the advancement of women in engineering to network, share resources, and discuss best practices for supporting women in engineering at higher education institutions.

October 13, 2-3:30pm EST, Lean on Me: Roundtable Discussion, Copying Versus Collaborating Moderator: Beth Anne Johnson

What do you do when a colleague creates a program that is identical to yours and your department or institution pulls funding from your program to support the “new program”? In this session, participants will engage in discussion and share best practices for institutional collaboration and methods to share resources to support new programs without harming established programs.

October 20, 12-1pm EST, Link and Learn: Women in Engineering Programs Roundtable Discussion Moderator: Serita Acker

Attendees will participate in a moderated discussion about pressing issues they are facing in their Women in Engineering Programs. Topics include the funding, effects of COVID-19 on programming, providing a “safe space” for students, effects of Title IX on programming, and best practices for collaboration.

October 27, 3-4:30pm EST, Listen and Learn: Leading with Purpose: Achieving Your Next Level of Potential Speaker: Kathy Sullivan

In this session, participants will learn about recent research related to women in leadership and gain insight to what supports the advancement of women, as well as barriers that exist in the workplace. Through a collaborative discovery process, participants will evaluate and discuss where they are and where they want to be by identifying strengths, motivators, and obstacles to achieving their next level of potential. Additional insights will be shared to help participants learn about key leadership capabilities and behaviors that organizations look for when selecting, developing, and promoting talent.
