Free, Downloadable Excel Version of the Equity Environmental Scanning Tool (EEST)

Description

This spreadsheet is the free, downloadable Excel version of the Equity Environmental Scanning Tool (EEST), designed for U.S. STEM professional societies to self-assess their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices.

It serves as a structured workbook that guides users through:

  1. Part 1 – The 12 Functions: Governance & Leadership, Membership, Meetings & Events, Professional Development, Chapters & Affiliates, Awards & Recognition, Marketing & Communication, Community Outreach & Engagement, Employment, Public Policy & Advocacy, Publishing, and Partners/Sponsors/Vendors. Each function contains assessment statements scored using a Likert scale (0–4 plus N/A).
  2. Part 2 – DEI Compositional Measures: Tables for recording numerical and proportional representation data across functions, focusing on demographic diversity.
  3. Part 3 – DEI Progress, Challenges & Priorities: Open-ended sections for documenting successes, barriers, intersectional strategies, and future DEI goals.

The file is formatted for easy data entry, allowing societies to centralize responses, track performance over time, and generate a baseline for planning actionable DEI improvements.
