Description

This document is an infographic summarizing the Equity Environmental Scanning Tool (EEST), a U.S. adaptation of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering and Science Council’s DEI Progression Framework. It explains that the EEST helps professional societies spark internal DEI conversations, benchmark performance, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and find actionable changes. The tool is organized into three parts:

  1. The 12 Functions – Governance & Leadership, Membership, Meetings & Events, Professional Development, Chapters & Affiliates, Awards & Recognition, Marketing & Communication, Community Outreach & Engagement, Employment, Public Policy & Advocacy, Publishing, and Partners/Sponsors/Vendors.
  2. DEI Compositional Measures – Quantitative and proportional representation of different groups across each function.
  3. DEI Progress, Challenges & Priorities – Open-ended reflection on successes, challenges, intersectional strategies, and future priorities.
